Three-Year Strategic Plan
(2007-2009)
The Presidential Decree No. 350/2005 established the Industrial Development
Authority (IDA) to meet the needs of comprehensive industrial development in
Egypt.
IDA aims to achieve the Egyptian Government's vision for exports and FDI-led
economic growth through manufacturing. This is reflected in the functions and
mission of IDA related to asset management with private sector participation. In
this context, IDA plays a new role such as coordinating for the private sector
and enabling it, besides the traditional functions which were performed by the
ex-General Organization for Industrialization over 45 years to facilitate &
regulate issuance of operating licenses and serve industrial activities through
provision of feasibility studies & offering consultation in the
environmental field.
IDA started work in March 2006 with the designation of the administrative
board and the appointment of its senior management. The Presidential Decree
included important responsibilities defined according to international best
practices and presented a new vision for developing industrial zones under the
private sector leadership as well as overall industrial development.
IDA possesses the capacity to strongly guide industrial development through
the attraction of new industrial and exports manufacturing capacity,
simultaneously providing social & economic advantages for the Egyptian
people. In addition, IDA will focus on encouraging industry by creating a
competitive business environment that addresses the needs of investors by
launching the "new generation of industrial parks program" to incorporate
infrastructure construction, management and marketing by the private
sector.
